The Juna Women Podcast is a weekly discussion where Juna Founder, Sarah Kuhn, talks to Moms about their health, work, parenting, and all the different ways they’re keeping it together.

This is Episode 17 of Season 03, All Things Potty Training with Aloha Integrative Therapy.

Download the episode transcript here.

On this episode Sarah chats with Quiara Smith.

Quiara, aka Aloha Integrative Therapy, is a a pediatric pelvic floor occupational therapist, which basically means that she specializes in all things related to potty training and treating the myriad of issues that may arise.

Quiara is a wealth of knowledge and together they get into some very helpful topics like how to know when your child is ready for potty training, the most common problems she sees, how to parent to each child individually, transitioning to nighttime potty training, and more.

This is one of those episodes you listen to 3x because there is so much good stuff packed in here. If you like it, share it with a mama who is getting ready to potty train their little one.

How To Know When Your Child Is Ready For Potty Training

1)  ⁣⁣Physiologically

Can they sense the sensation?
Are they telling you when their diaper is wet?
Can they manage their body independently?
Are they ready to embark on this journey?

2) Cognitively

Can they follow more than 1-step directions? Let’s walk to the potty. Let’s sit down. If they are overwhelmed or can’t understand the expectation then it’s probably too soon.

3) Temperament

This is where you key into the unique aspects of your child. What is their attitude toward potty training? Can they be successful with my support? This is the hardest piece because it’s very unique to each child.

For more in-depth knowledge on these cues, listen to the full episode with Quiara now — it’s perfect for those Moms and Dads getting ready to potty train their little ones or dealing with even more difficult issues around pelvic health.
